March 8th, 2017 - Day 8
So far so good, weight was down 7.4 pounds in the first 6 days. Was able to stay on track while traveling to Branson last weekend. Doing a good job getting to the gym and working on firing the furnace. Also like the weekly check ins vs daily. Bulletproof coffee has been a good way to start the morning, I have been feeling pretty good energy and hunger control in the morning.
March 3rd, 2017 - Day 3
Yesterday was a success, got off to a good start and followed through to the end of the day.
- Bulletproof coffee in the AM
- Gym again 15 minutes on the long stride elliptical trainer followed by another 15 minutes on the bike. Did 2 sets of bench with 135-145, 2 sets of shoulder high raises, then 2 sets of seated rows. Did not feel like I had much power for lifting but got a good sweat when it was all over. Noticed some pain in my right knee from the elliptical. Iced it at night before sleeping.
- Stopped at Dillon's, got lemons, beef stick and farm cheese to snack on. Breakfast and lunch at the office.
- Dinner was sliced chicken, pork belly and dessert was a sugar free pudding cup with whipped cream.
- Into be before 9
March 2nd, 2017
Well yesterday is in the can as they say. A day of having a plan and doing a decent job on execution. Here is what went down.
- Morning started with bulletproof coffee
- Went to the gym and did 30 minutes of fat burn on the treadmill while listening to a podcast on digital filming techniques. Did some stretching and capped it off on the massage bed for 10 minutes. I forgot my towels and Sonya was kind enough to bring them to me.
- Breakfast of God's Oats at the office.
- Went to the office, lunch with Jan Preston at Johnny's Steakhouse, had the Steak Tribute Salad and coffee. good choice and on track with my program.
- Dinner at home - Steak salad and chicken....then a glass of red wine (wine Wednesday). Then a sugar free hot chocolate...then the wheels came off and pica set in. several scoops of peppermint ice cream from the freezer, and a chocolate covered graham with whipped cream. Not a solid finish, but not bad for day 1.
So now I am contemplating the day and considering eliminating the grains and sugar again. The results that I found last time with a keto lifestyle seemed to work. how do i get the breakfast figured out?
This picture was one I was using for inspiration...the lout on the left look a bit like me currently...so we will see how it goes.
February 28th, 2016:
Some of life's persistent problems never go away until there is a new insight that changes our beliefs about the way we are living. For some people it is a health event like the widow-maker or worse the Big C. Everything changes and there is no going back to undo all that has been done. Bit by bit, day by day one little decision at a time. The cumulative effect can be devastating or liberating, it is our choice.
I am choosing not to wait for an insight, but rather anticipate what I already know to be the truth of our family. My Grandma Jane and Grandpa Bud both gone in their mid seventies, lived a good life, loved food and it showed. Heart disease, an epidemic in our country today and the lasting signs of the post war T-Bone and spuds lot form the headstones of our places of rest. Pawn or Scotty, the wiry Irishman and my Grandpa on Dad's side, lived into his mid eighties, thin build, thick silver hair and an engine that ran on strong brewed tea, room temp sharp Irish cheddar and unfiltered Viceroys. I hope that some of his genetics found their way through to my bloodline, a quick look at me with say I am all Rawlings and Henry. Such is life, we have to work with what we have.
So today for inspiration, I began to scour the web for some before and after pics of some poor sod like myself, that unlike me had managed to crack the code and is now living a life of unbridled energy and vitality. I found the photos of a firefighter in Missouri who at age 38 looked something like I do today, stocky with some muscle mass and strength augmented by a disgusting layer of flesh matter that spills over my belt. At any rate, this guy committed to 16 weeks of working out like a madman, watching his diet and looks great at the end...where he is now and what he is doing, who knows. It was a snapshot in time, he achieved it and life goes on, it gave me something to shoot at. The way I figure, 16 weeks will come and go regardless of what I do to change my situation. So why not go 100%?
So it is a bit of a crap shoot, I always key in on the stories like the one today, a 51 year old celebrity personal trainer goes down on a New York City treadmill, CPR and the paddles saved him but he was a picture of health, so go figure, there is no easy answer and it is all confusing. I suppose that all we can do is try to swing the odds in our favor. So tomorrow I am off, hurtling myself forward into some new obsession, lets hope that this time I can make it stick and short circuit my tested and proven system of self-sabotage.
Goals:
- Stay fit for hunting and fishing into the later years of my life.
- Be strong, lift heavy things, minimum effective dose
- Be agile and flexible
- Keep my mind sharp
- Minimum effective dose...do the thing, get the power.
